Hello,
I don't know if anyone will ever see this as the old aerodrome appears to have been abandoned for sometime now. But I have the unfortunate task of sharing that our former leader, Hptm. von Guber, passed away during the Summer of 2020. Unfortunately, due to some family health and other matters, I had fallen out of touch with vG around 2018. I had tried to reach out a handful of times over the years to no avail, but now it is sadly clear why that did not work out.
vG was a wonderful guy, and did an admirable job leading this virtual squad for so many years. I will always be in debt to him for giving a young 20-something stranger a chance to be part of this awesome community of flight-sim enthusiasts. He could have easily dismissed me as another dumb kid, in over his head (and often times I was). But he gave me a chance to be a part of something, and I am absolutely a better human today for his mentorship and friendship.
I have gone ahead and made another announcement post over on the IL2/Flying Circus forum in hopes that other former Rise of Flight pilots who knew him will see the post, and be able to share their memories of vG as well.

To the rest of you, if you're still out there - let me take this opportunity to thank you all as well, for all of your years of support and for the wonderful memories of flying with this squadron. I will cherish them forever.
