Here is my response to a notification that I received from BH_Schultze:
OMG so hard to believe! A tear is in my eyes. He always sounded like he was 20-something on comms; he was honestly one of the nicest people I've ever flown with, and I've done that since way back in the RB3D days when the BH guys took me in as an ally when the rest of my squadron was disappearing.
This is really a loss to the WWI flight sim community. Scott was an awesome guy and one of the few I was on a first-name basis with. God be with him!
Please accept the heartfelt condolences of me and the entire JG1 squadron. We were wondering if there is any way that we could contact Scott's family via email to let them know how much Scott meant to us and the entire WWI flight sim community. If Dutch and anybody has any contact information, we would appreciate it.
Thanks!

He always had a warm and approachable presence about him, and he always made me feel like I belonged. I am going to sincerely miss him, but I will always cherish the memories and happiness he shared with us all.
S! Scott, thank you for everything.

In honor of our friend Scott Owens, I've created this memorial area in the forum to share remembrances, so please yours. In fact, it would be appropriate to remember anyone in the flight sim community here. Let's hope we don't need to any time soon. Even though we'd not been playing ROF much lately, I traded phone calls with Osten fairly regularly. Our calls were always a welcome surprise, or a cheery note to the day, since he always sounded like a 20-something surfer dude on the phone and on TeamSpeak and his good humor was infectious. I always enjoyed visiting with Scott, whether we were talking about flight sims, fishing, military history, guns, making arrangements to trade books or even something mundane like work. (or why he had an aversion to smart phones) He was always very generous, and had sent me books for my collection just because he thought I'd enjoy them. I always tried to get even with him, but I think he was one up on me. Recently I'd been trying to schedule a trip to Ohio so we could meet there for the airshow, but life was interfering, so I suppose it wasn't meant to happen. I count Osten among my friends, even though we'd not yet met in person. I regret not having the chance. Clear skies and safe landings, my friend.

Osten was one of the regular flyers when we flew the WWHFA events. A great time and a great flyer. Dug up this panel from one of the dogfights in the comic. Thoughts and prayers for him and his family and the Black Haze. WWGeezer CO / Wingwalkers

I did not have to honor of knowing him personally, but from what my wingmen at JG1 have said about him, he was good to all who knew him. His legacy is an inspiration to me. Please accept my deepest condolences. I will be keeping you and his family in my prayers.

Fellow BH members, Thank you for sharing the sad news. I feel lucky to have met Scott once, two years ago. He always struck me as infectiously happy, and the kind of person everyone should have close to them. He will definitely be missed. S!

Salute! Oblt Osten
Scott, what a nice guy he was, I've been thinking a lot about him since I heard the news from Dutch. I can't remember a time in all the years we flew together as enemies or when he saw the light and came over to our side, that he ever said a bad thing about anyone. Actually back in the old RB3D days after he joined the BH, there were several times when I was CO of the squad that he kept me in check from saying something to someone, that shouldn't be said. He was a great addition to the BH not only as a pilot but as an ambassador for the squad. He was always willing to help someone out. He was that kind of person, he left this earth to soon. For those who didn't know him outside of flying, he was that same person in real life. I'm going to miss him.

S! All, JG1_Rotermann has created a video of BH_Osten's online memorial, which was held on 15 October 2016. Unfortunately, there is no recording of the eulogies spoken on TeamSpeak. But I think it's a fitting tribute to someone who will be sorely missed. On behalf of JG1, let me again express our deepest condolence to Scott's family and friends. www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTqP4UedTNE

I am late in hearing the news, but I'd like to express my sadness at the loss of Scott. I too knew him only virtually, for many years going back to my early days in RB3D. He was one of the guys I liked and respected the most over many years. He always seemed to be cheerful and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He will be sorely missed. S!

Salute Klaiber,
Thank you for posting this video and thank JG1_Rotterman for putting the video together for everyone. It is really appreciated. I've forwarded the link to the family with a short description of what they will see. They are having a small, private memorial this Saturday at his brothers house. This will give them a chance to view it. Thank you again and Salute! Bh_Lt_Dutch
