--Not good for RoF! Put your hard hat on before reading!--
Jason and 1CGS have announced new stand-alone Eastern Front WWI flight sim based on the massive Russian 4-engine "Ilya Muromets" bomber.

Scan through the thread above. Jason has already locked it as he did not want any political criticism.(Death to Moose & Squirrel!)
It is not RoF compatible and there are no plans to integrate with RoF.
It is a separate map for Russia on the Ukraine frontier, but does use the same RoF engine.
As RoF owners, we may get a discount on its purchase. No word on price yet.
The flight models will the exactly same as the existing planes in RoF.
The big advantage they claim is that planes in this new sim can be flown with just mouse and keyboard.
They rationalize that this will make the sim appeal to a far larger audience who cannot afford "expensive" control equipment.
Conventional controls will also work. Single player, multiplayer, quick mission builder, but no career.
The "Ilya Muromets" sim will have 8 aircraft:
Russian empire:
♦ Nieuport 17.C1 (fighter)
♦ Nieuport 11.C1 (fighter)
♦ SPAD 7.C1 (fighter, 1917 )
♦ “ILya Muromets” (bomber)
The enemy:
♦ Roland CIIa (recon)
♦ Albatros D.II (fighter)
♦ Albatros D.III (fighter)
♦ DFW C.V (recon)
1CGS has a special development partner and funder for this project: the Russian Military Historical Society.
Actionjoe (from Check-Six) pulled a quote from the society's web site:
2.1. The Company (Society) was established in order to:
- Consolidation of the forces of the state and society in the study of military-historical past of Russia;
- Promote the study of Russian military history and countering attempts at distortion;
- Help popularize the achievements of military-historical science;
- Education of patriotism;
- To raise the prestige of military service;
- Preservation of Military History, Cultural Heritage.
Someone posted that the chairman of the historical society is also the Russian Minister of Culture.
Just to further cheer you up:
1CGS is apparently thinking about ending any further RoF development and tweaks after the release of the Hanriot in late July.
There seem to be some noises about a RoF2, but it's very vague.
