For anyone interested in membership in our fine organization, the following is our current official recruiting policy. Please direct any questions to the CO, Communications officer, or other staff officer.

We welcome membership applications from experienced simulation pilots, or those who are relatively inexperienced or new to combat flight simulations. To be considered experienced, applicants shall have significant experience with the simulation we are currently using, extensive past experience with other online combat aviation simulations, experience participating in larger online events, had prior membership in one or more recognized online squadrons, or any combination of the above that is deemed sufficient by the Commanding Officer.
To apply for membership in The Black Haze Squadron, candidates must submit a request in writing to the Squadron’s commanding officer. This application shall include the applicant’s screen name(s) in ROF, any past screen names used, previous squadron affiliations, a brief outline of the applicant’s experience in combat aviation simulations, and a short statement outlining why the applicant wishes to join the Black Haze, and any sponsors the applicant may have in the squadron. This application should be submitted by email, and include a valid return address to facilitate communication.
Upon receipt of an application for membership, the squadron commander shall interview the applicant in person, or appoint one or more staff officers to do so. After this interview, the squadron staff officers shall discuss the application and advise the commander on how to proceed with the application.
Upon acceptance, applicants will begin a six month training period. During this time, the applicant will be considered a probationary member of the squadron, and will hold the squadron rank of Gefreiter (or Unteroffizier if the commander deems it appropriate). The applicant will be authorized to use a descriptive tag with his screen name for his ROF login, and any forum name(s) he may use. This tag will clearly designate the Name and rank of the candidate. For example, BH_ Gfrt.Snuffy. This rank and tag is probationary until such time as the candidate finishes training and earns his pilot’s badge. At the end of the six month period, promotion to Unteroffizier and full membership in the squadron may be extended to the applicant provided all required training has been completed and a favorable decision is reached by the squadron commander and his staff. If the conditions for membership are in any way not met, the applicant may not be accepted for membership in the squadron, or his training period may be extended. Any such decision will be at the discretion of the squadron commander.
During the training period, the applicant must:
1. Attend at least one online session per week or provide in advance a valid reason for not attending. (e.g., work conflict, illness, travel, etc.)
2. Read and study all published squadron operations and training documents.
3. Satisfactorily complete any assigned training exercises/tests, to include at least 3 basic aircraft qualification flights and one combat qualification as outlined below.
4. Demonstrate familiarity with standard squadron operations, including but not limited to formation flying, communications procedures, responsibilities of wingmen and flight leaders, and air combat maneuvers.
5. Strictly adhere to the Black Haze Code of Conduct at all times.
6. Not participate in any online campaigns, tournaments or “wars” as a BH member until completion of the training period, achieving combat aircraft qualification, or receiving express permission from the squadron commander.
