Looks like pretty good attendance by both BH and WW guys at the event on Saturday.
I was interested in your guys first impressions of the structure and format in particular in comparision to FIF.
We had a lot of the usual problems with 100 people trying to log in at the same time, bumped from server lost planes etc...but it settled down a little deeper in.
I do like the scale of it. Nice to fly as a squad and focus on your assignment instead of trying to strategize for the entire map. Nice to be a bit more removed from all the wrestling involved in putting on an event like this or having to command an entire side.
Let me know what you thought about it.

I REALLY like the concept and format. I had a pipe-dream of doing something similar for an event, but figured it was too complex. Now it's causing a re-think.
I agree about the detachment factor- just flying as a group is great fun.
We didn't see too many problems, but it seems the return planes function is still bugged. That's why we're still in Beta, I suppose.
My main impression is that the format of the mission gives a very high immersion factor. Not having a 'shoot here' mark on the map, and not knowing when, where, or even if you're going to see enemy activity certainly keeps me engaged with the flight. I understand that those who want a lot of shooting and respawns may not like the format. The fact that getting your planes home and landing in one piece counts for major points also puts a different light on things. So far, I'm lovin' it. It's a good thing for ROF, and I'm glad I took the plunge to try it out.
So....what was your impression?

Well I decided to fly as a bomber just a few days before the event. I practiced like crazy, stayed up until 1am the night before seeing if I could navigate in total darkness since our understanding was the start was at 7am.
I felt half hung over and fuzzy on Saturday morning when we got the word it was 8 and total daylight, had to change our entire strategy ( no secrets being given away)...
I actually think the last minute change helped the immersion for me and inspired my highly fictionalized AAR ( you can see it in the General section on the FEOW server or I can post it here if you are interested)
We saw a reasonable amount of action but no giant furballs and some quiet spots in between.
I had a blast. Likely I will have to take half a day of work on Jan 24th to be able to do this again on a Thursday "night" in the Euro timezone.
