The Old Rhinebeck is on the bucket list for me. I believe Levon Helm's Midnight Rambles ( blue grass venue) is also near by, so a dream vacation stop would be to go the Old Rhinebeck during the daytime and check out a show at the Barn that night. www.levonhelm.com/midnight_ramble.htm

Hey Geezer, Rhinebeck is perfect for a picnic. The distance between the viewing benches on the grass to the strip is at most 100 yards so you can see the flybys quite clearly from the stand while sipping a glass of wine. In fact you are so close to the planes you can smell the castor oil! I used to live up there and this was a regular visit for me as soon as the season opened. It comes highly recommended.
