With help from Sandy, I have been gradually building content for a blog dedicated to special project I am working on. This is a long term project to create a graphic novel that is a remakes of sorts of "The Blue Max" story. You can dig into it to get the details, but one goal was to create a landing place for past comics. This weeks post tells the story of the WWHFA campaign. You guys were part of that story, so it seems like the appropriate time to make the blog public Enjoy! WWGeezer thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/

yeah if you go into the full comics it is a bit of a nostalgia thing to see who the active flyers were at that time. The play field is always changing!

thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/Worth making a visit....I added pages for Jack Hunter, the author of "The Blue Max". His family is allowing me to reprint a few key articles and some of his paintings from his own blog. Really worth reading his article "The Blue Max Revisted" to understand where this book came from. Jack was active in World War II and his service along with his childhood fascination with aviation shaped where this book came from PS...nature of a blog is people can post comments...don't be bashfull!

thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/This week post relates to german terms used to describe rank, leadership during WW1 in "The Blue Max". This feels more like your guys area than mine. If anyone is interested in reading the blog and commenting, or pointing me towards better resources that would be great.

thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/Added some interesting images on the blog that I gathered of young german soldiers posing for portrait shots before they head to the trenches. My goal was really to create some resource files for uniforms and gear to assist me later. But these images stopped me in my tracks.

Geezer, I've really enjoyed your project docs and photos. You may have already seen this German website: Stahlgewitter 1914-1918 Download (Bücher) Some good WWI info. There are downloads for a lot of German military documents including Der Rote Kampfflieger. Further down that page is a section of translations and English language documents. The site has sections not only on WWI, but WWII, Korea, and Vietnam as well, with videos, photos and docs with most of it in German. Just a further note of caution: I did come across some photos that were indeed grim and others I decided to avoid entirely, such as videos on war crimes (Pakistan 2010) and testing of nerve agents on animals.

Wow there is a lot there. seems like the more I look the deeper it goes. I am really interested in researching some of the sketch artists from WW1 who drew out in the field. I want to see if i can find one whose style i can copy for a sketchbook. Will see how it goes. Thanks for the info.

thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.orgI just posted some of my first character sketches. The last one of the three I like a lot and sets the bar for what I would like to achieve with the graphic novel. not a marvel comic, but something that communicates emotionally and viscerally with the mood of the book. I also announced the project i want to do first, which will be " Rupp's Sketchbook"....more to follow.

Read on for the heroic efforts of Dubya, Bayo and Geezer to solve the mystery and render the images of Bruno Stachel's famous D7. Some of this is even true! thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/Warning: Image is consistant with the book, but carries a PG 13 rating

Wow, Dudly, lots of good stuff in there In this weeks post a bit of a review of "Timeline WW1" by Ballista...If you have not seen this well worth a visit. A multimedia history of WW1 for the Ipad. I included some detailed screenshots on my blog. Pretty amazing for $9.99. I had some audio issues with it, hoping that will get patched soon! thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/or you can go to their company application website www.timelineww1.com

John McCutcheon's song "Christmas in the Trenches" is a fine sentiment for the Holidays and memorializes the famous "Christmas Truce" of 1914 during World War 1. Follow the link to see a video of his performance. thebluemaxproject.wingwalkers.org/
