My wife is getting me a vid. card for Christmas. THAT decision is the easy one, now I have to choose which one to get. And since I'm computer illiterate I thought here would be the place to get the info needed to finalize that choice. I like the post Firecage put up about the EVGA cards' ability to set desired frame rates, and I know one other pilot here who likes EVGA, so that's the Datum for the search. The link below is to Best Buy's site, if you'd like to reply to this post please refer to the link for choices. In this way the complications for this mind boggling excersize may be kept to a minimum. If any other information about my system is needed I'll supply said info. ATT my power source is a minimal 4 or 500 watts. This I plan on changing with the card. One last thing, in the interest of avoiding stopping my wife's heart, the choice should be below $200.00. One of us in this household has to work after all. TIA. Edit: Best Buy doesn't allow the web address to their selection of EVGA cards to be copied and pasted. That would've been too easy. Still need ideas, I'll look it up on their site to see if they have it. TIA once again.

I'll try another approach (after going back and forth between web sites). What say ye of this... EVGA GeForce GTX 660 02G-P4-2662-KR Video Card - 2GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 3.0(x16), 1x Dual-link DVI-I, 1x Dual-link DVI-D, 1x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, DirectX 11, SLI Ready, Superclocked, Dual-Slot

After doing some research I found I have a MB with 1 PCIE x16 slot and 3 PCIE x 1 slots. I'm thinking that I want to be sure to use the 16 slot for the video card? Faster on the draw than the x1 slot, is that right thinking?

two things to consider, the actual physical size, will it fit, check dimmensions, also i note it says dual slot, so where your card is plugged in know it will also cover the slot below. i did think about going the sli route and putting in a second card, i had the slot available for it but my card is also a dual slot and the slot below where i would have plugged it in the second card was taken, so it was not an option for myself. On theforums most people seem to be looking at the 660Ti or 670, PM reeddog he'sbeen looking into it as he's building a new rig.

Glad you made the point about the dual slot because as I stated above I only have one 16 slot, the one immediately below it is a 3 slot. Reddog and I was talking about his build, he's using the same MB as I have (manufacturer, not type) and he said he was thinking of going with MSI vid. to match his board. Maybe I ought to do the same. Can any anyone tell me the difference between a TI card and a non-TI card. I noticed many cards in the same family can be a TI or non-TI car.

i believe the Ti got a more zip, for the extra money the 670 gtx is the better card for this game, think it renders better than the 660Ti

Not just covering slots, but the physical size of your case. Most newer cases are built for these bigger cards, but it would pay to check and make sure. I think it would be bad to get it and find out there's something in the way when you try to install, or that the slots are too far back, etc.

Here we see a picture of my MB, here we can see that the width of the desired video card may or may not clear the components on either side of the one PCIe x16 slot. If the card sits up high enough it may clear the adjacent pieces of the MB. (Now I know what Micro ATX in the MB normenclature means.) us.msi.com/product/mb/H61M-P23--B3-.html#/?div=Overview Looking at one of the images up close (mouse over the pic), I think the only part in question might be the capacitor on the right side of the card slot. All other parts around the area in question look low enough to rest in the cards shadow. I think, sorta kinda.

Yes, saw it, thanks.
Interesting comparison. The real difference lies in the higher number of stream processors, and hence texture filtering - 31% better with the Ti. The question is; is that a big deal for what you intend to run on your system?

Is it? It's ROF and not much anything else. Maybe ro late,. what do you think, you're more knowledgable about these things than I. I don't fully understand the concept of texture filtering.

Short explanation: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texture_filteringI think it says "more is better", generally Klaue and Hawkeye should weigh in...I generally just buy the best component I can afford, knowing that everything will be more graphics-intensive in another year...or month.

Short explaination? LOL, you forget you're talking to a jarhead.
"I generally just buy the best component I can afford, knowing that everything will be more graphics-intensive in another year...or month. " A gamers axiom if ever I heard one. What is relative about the statement, though, is where is this point of affordability when one is talking 50 or so dollars? For me it represents 1/3rd of my monthly stipence (allowance).
