Just as i am about to start ordering the parts for my build i went on forum run by big time gamers who build their own, i posted what i was thinking of buying and asked for any advice, the next thing i know their all telling me not to waste money on X79/i7 etc. They seem to be of the opinion that i should build using a z77 MB and nothing more than a i5 processor as anything else is just a waste of money as i won't use the extra horse power for any game currently on the market? This is just one reply i got: You don't need anything more than an i5 for gaming - don't need any more than 8gb of RAM for pretty much anything other than rendering which I'm guessing you wont be doing, and the MSI boards are probably the best performing boards in the Z77 range. Then just add a 670 and you'll be set for gaming and get over 60 FPS in pretty much every game So now i'am back to square one! Hum!!!

I've read that type of stuff from the so-called experts...they're on every manufacturer's forum. Here's a point in my mind; do I want an I 3 or I5 processor running constantly at 80% capacity or more, or would I rather have my I7 crunching along at about 30% capacity? Even though you might be able to run stuff at full capacity with lesser hardware, there will be more stress on the components and more frequent need to update. Hawkeye is spot on- get the best hardware you can afford to get, because software will be catching up with you, and quickly. I'm not burning up components every few months like I hear from the hard-core gamers... just sayin'....

S! Hawk. I see you have a aircooled heatsink, now i've been looking at these aswell.Do you think a Notcua NH-D14 would perform better than the H100? Now i like the look of the H100 but the noise of the fans can be a bit of a pain from all accounts so i am still looking at the H100 but ordering 2X Notcua NF-F12 fans to go with it,this will be roof mounted with the fans exhausting.

In my experience, the Corsairs are good PSUs. I don't think you could go wrong with that HX850, unless, as Hawkeye said, you're going to add a bunch of power hungry stuff later.

The forums i've been on seem to have SSD for the OS, and the magnetic for storage. A 1TB is about $70 here as for SSD's a 240Gb is about $214 mind you saying that i only use 100Gb of the 700 i have on this rig so i could go alot lower on the size i need.
